I really recommend Dr Fung's book "The Obesity Code". I have gotten good results from a 12-12 fast where I just skip lunch and cut out snacks. This is a pretty gentle introduction to fasting.

I love Jason Fung, but it really bothers me when he says cutting calories doesn't work for anyone. It does. Many people cut calories and lose weight. Plus, fasting is just cutting calories...by a lot. Yes cutting calories works.

I used to eat one meal a day, because I couldnt be bothered to have breakfast or lunch in my university days and i had no idea why I kept losing weight. I only got hungry in the evenings, around 6 pm would when i would have my dinner. And my mom would force me to have breakfast and i just wouldnt. I slimmed down and got really fit and healthy though. 😂

My grandma used to smack us with a spoon and say, "No grazing between meals! You're not a cow!" We'd eat at 6 am, 12 pm, and 6 pm. And that's IT. We were outside playing most of the day, and when we came home at night, we ate dinner and then went back outside to play until 7:30 pm. Then we'd take a bath and go to bed at 8 pm. Very few kids were fat back then. Maybe 1 or 2 kids in the whole school who were usually being fed too much carbs b/c they were poor and had some sort of predisposition to diabetes.

I've tried IF twice.(OMAD) The first time I ate until I was full and didn't count calories. The second time I ate 1200 calories per day. I only lost weight when I restricted my calories. I feel like IF is just a method to make calorie restriction easier. I'm not sure why he says counting calories doesn't work for anyone? It seems like it's the only thing that works.

My first fast lasted 15 days. My second fast lasted 20 days. My 3rd fast lasted 40 days. Most of my ailments were resolved. I did hospital visits before and after, and my readings changed significantly for the better. I stopped needing my inhalers. My osteoarthritis pains stopped. My inflammatory readings went from 1200 to 5! Two of my doctors discharged me. Fasting works

Yesterday I bought Dr. Fung's book, The Obesity Code, and was so impressed with the forward that I wanted to watch a couple of his YouTube lectures first. This is the first one I listened to and am so grateful for his no nonsense insights to weight loss and preventing Diabetic kidney failure. I turned 65 this past June, and was a kidney donor for my brother in 2006, so I am particularly interested in protecting the one kidney I have left. I have gained about 40 pounds since June and find myself , according to my OB/GYN in the throws of menopause even though I thought I'd finished with that about 10 years ago. Oh, I should mention that I've had hypothryroidism controlled for the last 35 years with different dosage levels of Synthroid. In June my PCP reduced my Synthroid dosage because I was not within the "margins". So, somewhere in there I developed a serious weight issue that I've never had before. I practiced once-a-month fasting growing up in the LDS faith the first 19 years of my life, and am looking forward to exercising that muscle again in my weight loss and healthy lifestyle efforts now. I think I'll start with a 24-hr fast once a week. Thanks so much Dr. Fung! I know this was a little wordy, but this is the first time I've ever done this.

When I was in high school they used to call this an "eating disorder " I always knew they were full of shit back then. But in my adult years I started to buy the lie, and ate like everyone else. And guess what? I'm about 100 lbs overweight and have health problems now.

Actually anorexia is not just about body image. It's about control. Often for someone with an eating disorder, they feel like they have no control over things happening in their life. Food is the one thing they can control, so they start controlling how much food goes into their body.

i like this guy. i have also been doing these intermittent fasts, 12-15 hours each day, and i notice some benefits. i also find my appetite to make a little more sense these days. i eat a little less and feel like i absorb more nutrients from the food i do eat .

Perhaps fasting is better than caloric restriction for maintaining lean muscle however what if you want to gain more muscle and you are a competitive bodybuilding.....Love to hear your thoughts on that.
